Abstract

This collection describes the preparation of buffers and reagents used in the manipulation of proteins.

    Buffers and Stock Solutions

  • Ammonium acetate, 10 M

  • Dithiothreitol (DTT), 1 M

  • EDTA (ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid), 0.5 M (pH 8.0)

  • Ethidium bromide, 10 mg/ml

  • HCl, 1 M

  • KCl, 1 M

  • MgCl2, 1 M

  • MgSO4, 1 M

  • NaCl, 5 M

  • NaOH, 10 M

  • Phenol, buffered

  • Phosphate‐buffered saline (PBS)

  • Potassium acetate buffer, 0.1 M

  • Potassium phosphate buffer, 0.1 M

  • SDS, 20%

  • Sodium acetate, 3 M

  • Sodium acetate buffer, 0.1 M

  • Sodium phosphate buffer, 0.1 M

  • SSC (sodium chloride/sodium citrate), 20×

  • TAE (Tris/acetate/EDTA) electrophoresis buffer

  • TBE (Tris/borate/EDTA) electrophoresis buffer

  • TE buffer

  • Tris⋅Cl [tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane], 1 M
