User Protocol Submission Guide

Users are invited to submit protocols about their research on our community website at www. currentprotocols.com. Protocols may be submitted as PDFs via our online submission system.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION
1. REGISTER
2. After logging in, go to MY CP.COM
3. Click the link to “Upload a protocol” then “Share your protocol in PDF format.”
4. Under the CATEGORIES tab, enter the title and select the relevant subject categories for your protocol.
5. Under the SUPPLIER/AUTHOR DETAILS tab, add your name and any co-authors. Including suppliers used within the protocol is suggested, but not required.
6. Under the PROTOCOL INFO tab, copy the abstract (required) into the text box, then upload your protocol as a PDF file below.

STYLE GUIDELINES
Protocols are generally 1000-1500 words and can include display items. Please include the following when possible:
• Author(s), affiliation, phone/fax/e-mail contacts
• Introduction
• Main protocol text, with relevant materials and equipment, procedure
• Discussion, which can include the background theory, discussion of literature, comparison with other methods. When possible, we encourage you to provide critical parameters and troubleshooting tips for your procedure and advise your audience on the kinds of results you’d expect to see, and how long the procedure takes.

Figures
Appropriate figures illustrate some aspect of the protocol (equip¬ment, flow chart of steps, appearance of gradients, etc.) or expected results.

Videos/Movies
Current Protocols now accepts videos that enhance understanding of the procedures described in the protocols. Such videos will illustrate processes involved in carrying out protocols, particularly if that process requires special skills. If you would like a procedure filmed but don’t have the facilites to do so, contact us and we can make arrangments to film the procedure.

Tables
Tables should be self-explanatory. Include a table number, table title, and explanatory footnotes. Cite each table in the text of your manuscript. If previously published, cite the original source(s) and provide a copyright permission form.

Acceptances and Rejections
Protocol submissions are reviewed by Current Protocols staff who will make the decision whether to accept within 5 business days of receipt (although often the decision will be made earlier). Accepted protocols will be published online no later than 5 business days from the date of acceptance.

If you find you need to make corrections to a posted protocol, please either post a new version, or use the commenting feature for each protocol to make notes. Please contact Sarah Andrus if you have any questions about this process.

Removing Content
Protocols will remain on the site indefinitely and users have the ability to remove protocols they have posted.

Pricing
Current Protocols editorial staff may select certain protocols for peer-review and inclusion in a CP title; in these cases we will contact you.
